A new and charming restaurant now integrates the streets of Vila Madalena, in São Paulo. The architect duo Nathalia Favaro , from Vitrô Arquitetura, and Ana Guedelha designed the Camélia Òdòdó project, a 100% vegan restaurant with a menu led by culinarist and TV presenter Bela Gil . With 74 m², the restaurant shares space with the Korui Store café annex, measuring 55 m². Despite the different uses, both establishments share the same facade .

"The architectural project was designed based on a central axis that connects the store to the restaurant and has a staircase and a marquee for access. At the ends of the property are, on one side, the restaurant hall, café and kitchen and on the other, the Korui store", comments Ana Guedelha.

The main challenges encountered by the duo when designing the project were the steep slope along the entire facade , the lack of integration between the property and the street, the little entry of natural light and the existence of internal unevenness. Therefore, a large staircase was installed to facilitate access to the property , also serving as a shaded stand that creates an effect of widening the sidewalk . A concrete marquee helps with this integration and shelters the arrival of pedestrians from the cafe and runs the entire length to the store.

Amid the store's open plan, an existing central block houses the most functional program of the project, consisting of a bathroom, stockroom and cashier. With an L-shaped configuration, an independent opening was created for the café. The outdoor deck with a garden of Unconventional Food Plants (PANC'S) is among the restaurant's highlights .

The project avoided major structural renovations to the old house. Part of the waste generated during the demolition was reused in the work itself : in the external deck, on the sidewalk bench and in the internal furniture. "In addition, we rescued the property's natural light by opening the existing spaces, which were covered, generating an increase in the sensation of spaciousness ", says Nathalia Favaro.
