Located in Braga, Portugal, the Imaculada Conceição Chapel received a restoration and intervention project from the Cerejeira Fontes Architects office, which combines materials and natural light, allowing a dialogue between the space, the individual and the divine.
The main protagonist of this project is the Capela Cheia de Graça, which in a metalinguistic situation, is inserted within the Capela Imaculada Conceição itself. It is a structure built with wood, from its base to the high planes. Its entire formation is provided by fitting pieces, resulting in a balanced construction that references a forest. This was possible thanks to
the location's high ceilings. The slots in the vault, which extend across its concrete walls, create moments of openness, allowing sunlight to filter and granting rigor and greater dignity to the structural elements of the roof. In the background, there is a retro marble pattern, naturally lit, transporting the viewer to another dimension. The entire connection between exterior and interior, light with the play of shadows, wood with concrete, seeks to reflect on the material and the immaterial, belief and the divine, in a project that embraces and unites the spiritual with architecture .
