Did you know that March 22 is World Water Day? Since the UN established the date in 1992, it has been a day to bring attention to the misuse of this essential resource, and also to praise sustainable initiatives that seek to protect -it. According to the National Basic Sanitation Information System of the Ministry of Cities, Brazilians use, on average, 166.3 liters of water per day. This amount can be significantly reduced through conscious consumption.
To celebrate Water Day, CASACOR has put together some tips that can make homes more sustainable. Check them out below!
1. Garden
The beauty and serenity of plants make gardens a success in homes and also at CASACOR exhibitions, however, taking care of them can waste large amounts of water. Alternatives to reduce consumption are: using watering cans instead of hoses, always checking the soil so as not to over-irrigate, and preferably in the mornings and evenings, because of the mild temperatures. Storing rainwater to water the garden is also a great option.
2. Swimming pool
A place of rest in homes, bathrooms and toilets are highly dependent on water. To avoid waste, low-flow showers and faucets are a good option, and you can find options in different colors and materials. Flushes with several options flow, also available on the market, significantly reduce consumption.
Paying attention to leaks and repairs can greatly help with water consumption. Small drops that run off can, at the end of a day, mean losses of more than 80 liters.
4. Works and constructions
Building a house or a space is a laborious process that uses a lot of energy. However, during the construction process, it is possible to keep water consumption under control, in addition to installing mechanisms for reusing water in the final product.
At CASACOR São Paulo 2017 , water consumption monitoring networks were installed on the construction sites and the use of rainwater allowed 18 thousand liters of drinking water to be saved. Dry construction techniques were also important in saving money.
In newly built homes, the installation of cisterns to collect rainwater, as well as smart water systems and alternative ways of generating energy (solar, for example) are the possibility of a greener, and also bluer, future!
