Shipping containers could become open-air theater in New York
With the famous theaters closed for over a year, the Broadway district in New York may have an alternative to return to staging its musicals: the Marvel architecture firm created a project to build outdoor stages from suspended shipping containers . According to the professionals, the alternative could be put into practice quickly if the city government is interested.

The choice of containers was made due to the practicality and resistance of the structure. "They have been deployed on many occasions for housing, retail, storage - and can be easily stacked and interconnected - so in one or two weeks we can have instant stage support, green rooms and technical storage," the professionals explained to the Deezen website. Another suggestion is to use LED screens at the bottom of the containers to create scenes. The lower part of the stage could also be adapted to serve as a pit and house the orchestra. If the project is approved, it could be a good alternative for the operation of theaters, since Broadway is expected to reopen only in June 2021.[newsletter]
