Meet the winners of the 2019 ArchDaily Brazil Work of the Year Award

via ArchDaily Last week ArchDaily has announced the 15 finalists for the 2019 Building of the Year , an award that celebrates the best of Portuguese-speaking architecture, inviting readers to choose their favorite projects built in Portuguese-speaking countries. Today, the day has come to announce the winners of the ODA19 .

The winning project, Cais do Sertão Museum, by the firm Brasil Arquitetura presents the universe of the backlands in its multiple aspects that form a Brazilian way of being. In second place, Sesc 24 de Maio, by Paulo Mendes da Rocha and MMBB Arquitetos, had already won the international award, the Building of the Year 2019, in the public category . It demonstrates the power of architectural reuse, transforming and incorporating the structure of an old department store abandoned for decades into an urban facility on a metropolitan scale. The third place winner, Casa João de Barro, from Terra e Tuma Arquitetos Associados , shows respect for the context and the inclusion of the house in its surroundings and the landscape.
