Meet the Brazilians chosen by the Latin American Architecture Biennial
The offices Obra Arquitetos and Vão Arquitetura are from São Paulo and have a strong modernist inspiration

The Latin American Architecture Biennial (BAL 2019) reached its 6th edition in September with the aim of showcasing the work of emerging professionals in Pamplona, Spain. Among the 14 offices from eight Latin American countries, there are two Brazilians: Obra Arquitetos and Vão Arquitetura . Obra Arquitetos is headed by João Paulo Daolio and has been working on architecture and urban planning projects for 15 years. Based in São Paulo, the firm specializes in an industrial style, with exposed concrete, iron structures and pure volumes.

The most recent project by Obra Arquitetos, Casa LLF sought to explore relationships with the vegetation that surrounds the land. Built in reinforced concrete, the house was distributed on two levels.

Casa CR, from the same office, is located in São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo. In it, an L-shaped sloping roof was proposed, which blurs the limits between the interior and exterior.

Also from Obra, Casa LEnS aims to be a space for contemplation and reflection. To achieve this, curved glass was designed so that the patio had no segmentation and could be observed from all angles.

Vão Arquitetura is responsible for the headquarters of a block factory in Avaré (SP). The construction was carried out without the use of mortar, enabling rapid assembly and possible relocation. Stability was guaranteed by significantly increasing the thickness of the walls, transforming them into true walls of dressed blocks.

Casa Sem Dono No. 01 do Vão was created with a lower ceiling height, leveled by the volume of exposed concrete. Plays of natural light and reflections change according to the seasons, in the project that is divided into two levels.

From the same studio, the Viaduto Apartment offers a unique view of the center of São Paulo, as it marks the visual axis of the Nove de Julho Viaduct. The original internal masonry was demolished to allow natural light to pass through. The division between the spaces is made by furniture that floats suspended, without touching the green floor.
