Located on one of the most beautiful streets in Belo Horizonte, the mansion that will host CASACOR Minas Gerais this year is beginning to undergo restoration work that will enhance and further highlight its striking architecture, which is currently damaged by time and lack of maintenance. . However, since it is a listed building, it is essential that renovations respect its history. According to the guidelines of the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), original details, finishes and constructions cannot undergo any type of modification. Check it out which is being done to preserve the original features of the building. Flooring for external and internal areas
Some floors of the building have undergone many changes since its construction. On the outside of the mansion, the original shapes of the Portuguese pavement and the stones that form the main staircase have been preserved. The non-original floors of the entrance porch, which can be modified, will be exchanged for replicas of hydraulic tiles. The internal coverings, most of which are made of wood, will undergo revitalization processes, which consist of an initial technique of scraping the wood, to remove the accumulation of dirt and even out the surface, followed by a coat of varnish, applied with the aim of highlighting the original color of the floor.
Landscaping
The house's outdoor area will gain a new garden that takes into account the property's architectural style, the climate of Belo Horizonte, the mansion's water availability and the latest trends in landscaping.
Wooden wagons
The carriages located outside the building will also be fully restored and will be on display. All of their original features, both internal and external, will be maintained and one of them will be part of the space designed by architect Gislene Lopes.
Graffiti
The exterior walls of the property and the locomotives have undergone several interventions over the years. Any paint that is not original will be removed by a qualified team specialized in this type of removal. Bathrooms
In order to comfortably accommodate all visitors and those who will visit the property even when
CASACOR is no longer present at the mansion, some requirements have been established, including the complete renovation of the bathrooms. The project is being developed by Edwiges Leal and Eduardo Beggiato.
Internal painting
All the walls of the approximately 3,250 m² of the mansion will receive new colors following the restoration guidelines. Some walls will not be painted on purpose, with the intention of showing the marks of time to the public.
Entrance staircase
The main staircase that provides access to the mansion has a natural stone floor from the time it was built. The stones will be polished to give them the same appearance as when they were installed. Currently, the railing with baluster has flaws and incomplete pieces. will also be restored. The upper part of the railing, which is made of marble, will undergo a process to recover its original tone; some parts that are broken will be rebuilt.
The building on Rua Sapucaí was recognized as a cultural heritage site by the city of Belo Horizonte in 1996, and by the state in 1988, as part of the Architectural and Landscape Complex of Praça da Estação.
