Dream house in Atibaia is designed in light of Lina Bo Bardi's modernism

On the banks of the Atibaia River, in São Paulo, Charlotte Taylor and Nicholas Préaud imagined a dream home inspired by the modernism of Lina Bo Bardi , in particular the Glass House , a residence she built and lived in with her husband in the 1950s. In a series of ultra-realistic renders, the duo launches their first collaboration with Casa Atibaia . Comprising a towering concrete and glass volume , the house is considered a significant example of Brazilian modernism . With the premise of coexisting with the landscape , Casa Atibaia inhabits the riverside vegetation without imposing itself on nature, making it part of its architecture. For the duo, Brazilian modernism is the perfect representation of living in the countryside with the illusion of being outside . Thus, the entire house was sealed by glass facades with black frames, which create a series of elegant curved movements , in addition to framing the natural greenery. The strength of Casa Atibaia lies in the balance between its delicate and fresh essence and the rougher aspect given, above all, by concrete. The structure of the house follows modernist geometric principles, but opens onto a large organic internal courtyard , which curves and responds to the surrounding vegetation.

The brutalist language also takes shape in the pre-existing rocks, essential to the structure of the house and around which it was built. The rocks also occupy the interior in a functional way, being a point of visual convergence in the bathroom and bedroom, which were sculpted based on their shape. The interior design is comprised of a variety of modernist pieces, antique items and contemporary additions with names such as Pierre Augustin Rose , Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Chapo . In the living room, a cream curved sofa is accompanied by a pair of reclining armchairs and an accordion lamp. High-backed wooden chairs surround the stone island in the adjacent kitchen. Like Bo Bardi’s Glass House , Casa Atibaia features a white concrete structure and large glass windows. However, instead of stilts, the house would be elevated by huge, irregular stones that jut out into the ground below.
