The Florianópolis Town Hall and Jail, a two-hundred-year-old building, has just had its restoration completed. The works were carried out by Concrejato Engenharia, a company specialized in the restoration of architectural heritage. Now, the mansion will house the new City Museum , a partnership between the city hall and Sesc SC.

The Town Hall and Jail was the seat of municipal power in the then Vila de Nossa Senhora do Desterro, and was a project by the architect Tomás Francisco da Costa, delivered in 1780. Because of its historical value, several discoveries were made during the works. archaeological discoveries have taken place. Researchers have found everything from decorative paintings to cannon muzzles.
