Modern architecture by Oscar Niemeyer houses the best of fashion at SPFW

The Fundação Bienal Pavilion will host São Paulo Fashion Week this week. During the five-day event, fashion will invade Ibirapuera Park and connect with architectural works of art. The building, formerly known as the Palace of Industries, is part of the architectural complex designed by Oscar Niemeyer and built between 1951 and 1954 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the city of São Paulo. The complex also includes the Palace of Nations (Afro-Brazil Museum), the Palace of States, the Palace of Agriculture (the Museum of Contemporary Art (located on the other side of Avenida 23 de Maio) and the Palace of Exhibitions (the Oca), in addition to the winding marquee that connects the buildings. The Cicillo Matarazzo Pavilion is approximately 12,500 m² and, like the other buildings in the complex with the exception of the Oca, has a large, sober parallelepiped façade made up of aluminum sunshades.

It is this richness of the interior architecture that attracts SPFW Creative Director Paulo Borges to hold the event there every year. Fashion shows take over the floors and the mezzanine designs become installations for brand launches. HOME SERVICE SPFW WHEN? April 25-29, 2pm-10pm. WHERE?
